On Tuesday, 24 June at 7pm in Bridgend Rugby Club, the borough will officially invite the Urdd National Eisteddfod to the area in 2017.

Local Councils, Public Bodies, Voluntary Organisations and Societies and the public are invited to an open meeting to discuss the invitation for the Eisteddfod to visit the area in 2017.

Efa Gruffudd Jones, Urdd Chief Executive, Aled Sion, Director of the Eisteddfod, Dyfrig Davies, Chair of the Eisteddfod Board, and a representative from Bridgend Borough Council  will be present at the meeting.

This will be the first meeting between the Urdd Eisteddfod and the people of Bridgend and if everyone agrees to invite the Eisteddfod, the Urdd will then ask for nominees to join the Executive Committee and work will start on forming syllabus committees for the Eisteddfod.

Efa Gruffudd Jones, Chief Executive of the Urdd said, “Local Urdd volunteers and the Council have already showed their support and commitment to the Eisteddfod and we look forward to meeting the local people with the hope of bringing our national event to the Bridgend Borough in 2017.”

Aled Sion, Director of the Eisteddfod added, “The main aim of this meeting is to get the societies, organisations, local councils and residents’ seal of approval for the Urdd Eisteddfod to visit the area in 2017. The Urdd Eisteddfod has not been held in the area since 1979 when it was held in Maesteg and it would be great to bring our National Eisteddfod to this corner of WalLogo'r_Urddes once again.”

An Overnight Trip to Amelia Trust Farm

photo amelia

On the 29th of May 2014, we went on an overnight trip to Ameila Trust Farm with 12 children. The children had two days of fun and games on the farm participating in a range of activities, like leaf hunt, sports, visiting the animals, creating mud faces, cooking cookies, and lots more.

 It was a wet day when we arrived at the farm, but with wellies and rain coats on, the rain didn’t stop the children from having fun exploring the farm and wandering through the forestry. It was an experience for them to stay overnight at the farm without their parents, but everyone enjoyed.

 It was a pleasure to have the children and to see them enjoying the experience. Thank you for attending and we look forward to Menter Bro Ogwr’s future trips.

Theatre Iolo – Welsh language performance

A sparkling and biting comedy with an outrageous look at family life by the acclaimed playwright Gary Owen.

There’s a family – Mum, Dad, two children and Cadi the cat. Dad says he doesn’t want any fuss at all made for his birthday. So Mum takes him at his word: she and the kids don’t do ANYTHING for Dad’s birthday. But, Dad is furious about no one doing anything for his birthday. And when Dad’s frustrations combine with the Cat’s destructive power, chaos comes to a family gathering.

Award winning Theatr Iolo (Winner of Best Play for Children and Young people: Theatre Critics Wales Award 2013) is delighted to present this brand new show for families and schools in the Welsh Language. Age 6+

E-Petition:Support for the Mentrau Iaith (Language Initiatives)

We call on the Assembly to ask the Welsh Government:

to congratulate the Mentrau Iaith for their innovative work in promoting the use of the Welsh language across Wales;
to confirm that the Mentrau are a key partner for the Government in the context of implementing its Welsh-language strategy;
to provide a prompt response to Cardiff University’s survey of the Mentrau’r work, ensuring that the funding that is given to them is a fair reflection of the scale of the task that they face – while accepting that the amount of money that is available to them needs to be increased substantially;

to accept that there is a need for consistency between the Mentrau in terms of funding and that the current inconsistency needs to be addressed;
to fund Mentrau Iaith Cymru fairly, ensuring that it can play a full role in co-ordinating the work of the Mentrau and providing them with assistance and guidance;

to ensure that the Welsh-language standards compel Welsh local authorities to support the work of the Mentrau and to ensure that the authorities work closely with the Mentrau;
to play a full role in providing strategic guidance in the context of community planning.
