Menter Bro Ogwr wants to gather information from adults in the county about what kind of events and activities they would like to attend through the medium of Welsh. The information on this form will be used to measure the demand for us to know what opportunities to provide in the near future. Number of organisations profitting from grants benefitting the Welsh language
20 organisation from all over Wales will benefit from grants raised as part of Ras yr Iaith (Race for language) 2018, to support promote Welsh in the community.
Menter Bro Ogwr would like to congratulate Cylch Meithrin y Ferch o’r Sgêr who will receive a Ras yr Iaith grant this year!
Rhedadeg ltd and Mentrau Iaith Cymru (Welsh language initiatives) the Race’s organisers, are happy to announce grants of up to £750 to various organisations, following the success the third Race held between 4 – 6 July 2018 and raised more than £7,500.
The Race visited 15 towns and villages between Wrexham and Caerphilly, with the Language Baton uniting thousands of runners from all over Wales. Businesses, organisations, schools and individuals contributed £50 to sponsor a part of the Race. It is this profit that is now being shared through grants.
The Race will again be held in 2020, concentrating in raising awareness and pride in the Welsh language, promoting well being and strengthening our communities. Importance is also placed on the Ras yr iaith 2018 message, the importance to volunteer towards Welsh, which was part of being successful in receiving this years grant.
Information about Ras yr Iaith 2020 will be shared later this year.
Dr Gwenno Ffrancon, one of Tŷ’r Gwrhyd, Pontardawe’s managers said of being successful in receiving a grant this year:
“We are very happy to receive this grant from Ras yr Iaith towards establishing a Welsh skills club for young people at Ty’r Gwrhyd, the Welsh language centre for the Swansea and Neath valleys. Ty’r Gwrhyd was central in welcoming Ras yr iaith to Pontardawe last year, and the grant will make sure that the fun and enthusiasm over the language created with the Ras’ visit to this valley will continue.”

BUGGY BUTTIES
The best way to get back into shape whilst bonding with your child, making new friends and using or learning a little Welsh at the same time! We will be meeting once a month for a walk identifying and learning different things in Welsh. We will finish the session with an art activity in the centre with some Welsh songs for you and your children to learn. A great way for you to get some fresh air, entertain the children and socialise. Buggies are not essential, children of all ages are welcome!

Welsh for Business
A new free business advice and support service is now available for small and medium-sized businesses, designed to complement the services provided by Business Wales. The nationwide Welsh for Business project has government backing, and aims to help small independent companies take advantage of the economic benefits of using more of the Welsh language in their business model.
The service is available to all businesses, regardless of their current level of Welsh-language use; many companies will be able to benefit from the advantages of using more Welsh, even if the proprietors themselves don’t speak the language.
The project’s officers can provide a free assessment, tailored advice and practical support, and will be able to suggest free or very low-cost steps that businesses could take, as well as introducing them to new marketing routes and opportunities.
There are four officers covering the south-east Wales area (three as part of the project, and another working closely alongside independently of the project), who will be signposting to Business Wales as appropriate. Each officer has identified priorities and target sectors for their particular area, and would be happy to meet with advisers to let them know more about what they can offer.
