IMG_7571

On Thursday, October 15th the third Shwmae Su’mae Day was held, and once again Menter Bro Ogwr and many others across the country were busy encouraging people to greet everyone with “Shwmae” neu “Su’mae”.

This year, Menter Bro Ogwr took Sali Mali to Porthcawl, Sainsbury’s Sarn and Bridgend to greet people and spread the word about the day. Sali Mali met a number of lovely people on her travels and had some very nice photographs taken with them. You can see the photographs on Menter Bro Ogwr’s Facebook page (@menterbroogwr) and some on our website and on Twitter too.  We also asked you to your photographs of you celebrating Shwmae Day on our Facebook and Twitter pages for a chance to win a voucher for Siop yr Hen Bont. The winning photograph will be selected next week.

Menter Bro Ogwr would like to say thank you to the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl for the welcome and for Sali Mali’s personal dressing room and to Sainsbury’s Sarn for the welcome too. We would also like to thank Aberkenfig Squadron, Tyfu gyda’r Gymraeg – Penybont, Bridgend Libraries, Cafe Mimis, The Bridge, Bridgend College, YellowWales, BAVO, Cylch Meithrin Plant Bach Sarn, Noddfa Community Project, Siop Siarad Penybont and everyone else that have contributed their fabulous photos!

It’s been wonderful to see everyone embracing this national day. Menter Bro Ogwr can’t wait for the next Shwmae Su’mae Day next year!

Siop Siarad Discuss the #joia Campaign

We had a lot of fun discussing Mentrau Iaith Cymru’s latest campaign in the Siop Siarad on the 10th of July. In a nutshell, #joia is campaign to get more people, old and young to use more Welsh as part of their daily lives.

Joia4

The group discussed what they enjoyed doing through the medium of Welsh. We also asked them to describe the Siop Siarad in one Welsh word. So, here are the pictures from the session and our contribution towards the campaign!

Joia3

The Siop Siarad is held at Siop yr Hen Bont, Bridgend every Thursday. It offers learners the opportunity to ask questions and practice talking Welsh outside of the class.

Joia2

Menter Bro Ogwr’s Welsh Festival ends with good-bye to our Youth Officer – Yasmin Morris

IMG_6397

Menter Bro Ogwr’s Welsh Festival Week has come to an end with everyone enjoying the many events that took place. Thank you very much to everyone who has supported us; children, young people and adults.

These events would not be possible without the preperation, organization and dedication of the whole team of Menter Bro Ogwr and the support of volunteers who gave their time to ensure the events went off with a bang!

We also finish our week saying goodbye to our Youth Officer Yasmin Morris. Yasmin will start in her new position with Menter Abertawe next week. In the short time that Yasmin has been with Menter Bro Ogwr she has left her mark on the organisation and will be sadly missed. We wish her the best of luck in her new position. Good luck and thank you very much.
